The description said it had to be worth at least $1,200.00. Which really did nothing but cloud up my vision I think. Now that it's over and I've had a few days, My best guess is, at the right show, from the right dealer, I'd expect it to be priced about $2,400.00. That's just my best guesstimate though.

I showed a buddy Keith Schneider of Gasoline Alley Antiques to get his thoughts on it's value. Keith is usually very keen on determining value....but he didn't give a figure just more speculation.

2/22/10 Keith, Tell me if this isn't the greatest boxing flask you've ever seen? What do you think it will go for? I figure around $700.00...I may jam $1,200.00 on it to make sure...may....not sure yet...I figure it's worth $1,200.00 market value...but I don't know....what do you think? Isn't that just like eBay....you just never know what's going to turn up....darn I could fly round trip to Brimfield next month for $1,200.00....this may be my Brimfield trip right here...darn it -C

2/22/10 a superior item! hard to say WHAT it will go for in this stupid economy. It could possibly go high to a FLASK collector; or BOXING collector; or even to a collector of STERLING SILVER items. it is really hard to say until after the auction. but is really is a stunning piece. best of luck!

2/25/10 Keith, I got outbid on the flask...went for $1500.00...I was the under bidder.. -Carlton

2/25/10 BUT you will never know how high the winner's bid really was! he MAY have bid $2000 or even higher! best, Keith

I also looked on eBay to see what the highest closing price was for a silver flask and it was $800.26 for one made by Aspry in London in 1903....Couldn't even hold a candle to this boxing one. But I knew all that was only interesting little facts that didn't mean much.

So the next day I was down to decision time...And as always it was a balancing act of how much I wanted to bid and how much could I afford to bid...If price wasn't an issue I'd just toss $50,000.00 and forget about. So....I loaded a $1,200.00 snipe and hoped for the best....A few hours before close I changed my mind and upped it $277.00 to $1,477.00. I figured I'd get it and started looking around my collection for where I'd display it. I even went on eBay hunting for a display case for it....found just the right BoxingGloveFlaskCase.jpg (57873 bytes) one 8'' tall and 7 1/2'' square. It was getting exciting...I was ready to collect my prize and call it a day...just another hour to go...as the last few minutes ticked off I paced my work-out so I would be in front of the computer to watch the final moments before I left for my run...two minutes left...enough for sixty setups...finished and darted for the computer...missed the end by maybe one second....all I saw was the page reloading and "sorry you were outbid"....darn!!! I got out-sniped and was the under bidder.
